January is historically a time of setting goals and picking new resolutions. The holiday’s have ended with, hopefully, a wonderful bang and now it’s time to set up the new year right! I give you my 4 book recommendations for this hopeful and positive month.
If You Have to Cry Go Outside
Most people have no idea who Kelly Cutrone is now but I state and still believe she is a badass. This was book is amazing. If you are looking for answers, a path, a religion or just general darts into where to start growing this year read this. This book gave me all that and more. It made me research and think outside the box which was great.
How to Be a Woman
I have highlighted this before but Caitlin Moran is startlingly honest about her life journey so far in a way that makes her completely relatable. So many understanding lines like “When a woman says, ‘I have nothing to wear!’, what she really means is, ‘There’s nothing here for who I’m supposed to be today.” and one of my favorites “Batman doesn’t have to put up with this shit–why should we?”.
Hector and the Search for Happiness by François Lelord
This is very much a take it or leave it recommendation. Hector can be thoroughly irritating at times but the main high level message is positive and rewarding to take away this time of year. It’s overly cute and simple but searching for happiness need not be a complete drag.
MWF Seeking BFF: My Yearlong Search For A New Best Friend by Rachel Bertsche
I picked it based on the cover and was delighted that it was a memoir, of sorts, of the author’s time making new friends when she moved to a new city. It was certainly eye-opening and great quick read. Recommended if you are the sort of person who is unsure of how to meet people, girls or guys or potential partners. It’s so much harder to make friends as an adult but such a good task to try in the beginning of the year.
